ACT commits to ban greyhound racing

Great news last week, when the ACT Government made a big announcement that will see greyhound racing banned in the capital by the end of June 2018. RSPCA Australia and RSPCA ACT have welcomed the move, and we’re encouraging our supporters to send a quick message of thanks to ACT Attorney-General Gordon Ramsay for recognising the importance of animal welfare with this decision. Join us by saying thank you in your own words via https://www.rspca.org.au/greyhound-racing-ban-thank-you-act-government.

RSPCA Australia Senior Scientific Office Dr Di Evans recently chatted to Triple J’s current affairs program Hack about the animal welfare issues surrounding rodeos and calf roping. You can check out the full interview here.

End live export Bill introduced in Federal Parliament

The RSPCA recently supported the introduction of the Live Animal Export (Slaughter) Prohibition Bill in Federal Parliament, which seeks to end the live export of animals for slaughter. The Bill amends the Export Control Act 1982 in order to prevent the future export of cattle, sheep, goats and any other animals sent overseas to be killed. Read our full statement here.

Jamie Oliver has been awarded by RSPCA UK for his ongoing work to improve the welfare of farm animals and promoting high welfare products. Oliver received the organisation’s top honour and said, “If we all keep fighting, we can make a real difference. There’s a lot still to be done but this award is a massive boost. So thank you.” Read more here.
