Australians will now have 1450 more reasons to use the RSPCA’s online directory, Choose Wisely, thanks to Subway Australia’s decision to join the initiative.
Subway Australia is the country’s largest quick service business, with over 1450 stores serving more than 5 million eggs every year, and made the important switch in 2015 to use only cage-free eggs.
With more Australians caring about how their food is raised and wanting to find humane options outside the supermarket, Choose Wisely is providing a one-stop guide for options when eating out.
RSPCA Australia CEO Heather Neil said Subway’s decision to come on board was another great show of leadership by the company in its mission to use only cage-free eggs.
“Subway’s switch to cage-free eggs was an important step forward in helping free the 11 million hens still confined to cages in Australia,” said Ms Neil.
“Subway now joins the hundreds of eateries and leaders across the country already serving up cage-free eggs, higher welfare chicken or pork, as part of Choose Wisely.
“Around 40% of Australia’s eggs are used in the food service sector. Our commitment to freeing more hens from cages has seen consumers buying more cage-free eggs at the supermarket, and we welcome all the eateries showing leadership by joining Choose Wisely.
“Choose Wisely is not only part of Australia’s movement towards humane food, it also makes great business sense for thousands of eateries, because it represents a major point of difference,” said Ms Neil.
