Do Australians really know where their meat and dairy products come from? Are people aware of the plight of bobby calves in the dairy industry? Or that over 10 million layer hens are still kept in battery cages today? These are just some of the questions explored in the brand new Humane Food Podcast, launched by RSPCA Australia.
The Humane Food podcast series aims to educate consumers about the lives of farm animals, farming practices, and the power of consumers in supporting better welfare for farm animals.
The podcast is hosted by Brian Daly, a writer, producer and director who has been raising awareness of animal welfare issues for the past two decades, and features interviews with key players across agriculture, policy and the food industry.
“The RSPCA has been advocating for farm animal welfare for decades, and over that time we’ve come to realise that a lot of Australians really don’t have a high level of understanding when it comes to how the meat, eggs and dairy they consume is produced,” RSPCA Humane Food Manager Hope Bertram said.
“This podcast is one part of our education resources, that are aimed at bridging the gap between consumers, producers, policy makers and brands, to raise awareness of the welfare issues facing farm animals, and to also keep people informed on the positive progress being made by many Australian producers.”
