Remembering animals when creating your Will is a valuable and important opportunity to both leave a lasting legacy for animals in need, but also to make plans for your own pets.

That’s the message from the RSPCA today, a vital reminder that comes as the trusted charity announces a partnership with Safewill, an online Will-writing platform where — for a limited time — RSPCA supporters can create a Will online for half the usual price.

RSPCA Australia CEO Richard Mussell said that, while it can be uncomfortable to think about what will happen after you die, planning ahead for the inevitable is crucial to ensure your wishes are followed.

“That includes continuing support for the causes you care about, as well as allowing for the ongoing care of any pets you own,” he said.

“For example, leaving a gift to the RSPCA in your Will can help ensure a better future for all Australia’s animals, including the more than 120,000 animals across the nation who come through our doors each year.

“Gifts in Wills are vital to the RSPCA, and these gifts are currently supporting more than one in three of the animals in our care. Future gifts will allow us to continue our 150-year heritage in helping all creatures great and small.”

In addition to the importance of creating a Will in planning for the ongoing care of any pets, Safewill actively prompts users to consider leaving a charitable gift in their Will, something that helps charities like the RSPCA who rely on the generosity of the community.

“As little as 1% of your estate could make a world of difference in the lives of surrendered pets and stray animals,” said Safewill founder, Adam Lubofsky.

“And we’re comforted by the fact that 41% of Wills written by Safewill included care wishes for the family pet, meaning their care will continue when the pet parent dies,” he said.

To commemorate the new partnership, a limited-time exclusive offer is available to RSPCA supporters, offering a 50% discount off the usual cost of a Will (reducing the price from $160 down to $80). The offer is only available until Saturday 17 October 2021.
