Last week, RSPCA ACT had the highest amount of adoptions ever at the Weston Shelter. Last week saw over 141 animals find their new homes across Canberra.
RSPCA ACT Director of Animal Welfare Jane Gregor echoed this fantastic result “This was a great result for our hard working team at RSPCA ACT –we gave the staff an adoption target of 100 adoptions for the week and they surpassed this – even more cats and kittens would have gone home if we had them available.”
Most of these adoptions were for cats and kittens currently in care at the Weston Shelter. Close to 100 cats and kittens were adopted since last Monday. This is can be attributed to the recent reduction in adoption prices. This reduction due largely to a very busy kitten season seeing a surge in homeless and unwanted animals.
“Incoming kitten numbers have shown no signs of slowing down for the cooler months and we even had a litter born in care last night. With our cattery at capacity, we felt we had to do a special adoption price to reduce our in-care numbers. We still have nearly 100 kittens in foster care – these kittens are still not old enough to be desexed but will become available in the coming weeks.” said Jane Gregor.
It wasn’t only wonderful news for cats and kittens, 45 other animals including dogs, puppies, birds, rabbits, rats and lizards found a new home.
RSPCA ACT still has many wonderful animals available for adoption. They can be viewed online at www.adoptapet.com.au
