The RSPCA has today announced that Australian company, Oh Crap, will become its preferred supplier of dog poop bags to shelters across the country, as well as the company becoming a corporate supporter of Australia’s leading animal welfare charity.
Nationally, this partnership will save the RSPCA from using at least 365,000 plastic bags across its shelters, in the care of the 132,000+ dogs that are cared for and rehomed each year. That’s a lot of plastic saved from winding up in landfill!
Oh Crap’s compostable bags made from cornstarch will help the RSPCA reduce its impact on the environment, while continuing its mission of working for animal welfare, for all creatures great and small.
“We’re excited to be able to work with an Australian brand to do the right thing by the environment, while also taking care of the thousands of dogs we rehome nationally each year. Everytime our dogs are walked, and need a toilet break, we know that the bag our staff and volunteers use wont be ending up in landfill,” Dr Bidda Jones, Acting CEO of RSPCA Australia said.
Founder of Oh Crap, Bruce Hultgren said, “When we started back in 2014, we were ecstatic to know that we were making a difference, however small. To see that together, with our customers, we have saved over 6 million bags from landfill is really incredible. I am so proud of not only the Oh Crap team and the Oh Crap Family, but especially the RSPCA for deciding to make this change to the way we dispose of dog waste. Individually it is one small step, but together we make a huge impact.”
