RSPCA Australia has awarded the inaugural Sybil Emslie Animal Law Scholarship to Meg Good for her outstanding contribution to the promotion and development of animal law education.

“Meg’s hard work and dedication has made a tremendous impact on the development of animal law in Australia,” said RSPCA Australia Chief Science and Strategy Officer Dr Bidda Jones.

The Sybil Emslie Animal Law Scholarship is the first of its kind in Australia.

Ms Emslie, who passed away in March 2014 at the age of 79 years, loved animals throughout her life and was a regular donor to animal welfare charities including the RSPCA.

The $1,000 annual prize was generously donated by Ms Emslie’s family in order to celebrate her long-standing commitment to the care and protection of animals.

“Both the RSPCA and Sybil Emslie’s family are thrilled to be able to recognise Meg’s efforts through this scholarship,” said Dr Jones.

Not only does Ms Good teach animal law at the University of Tasmania, she is also the Director of Education with the Animal Law Institute and the Chief Editor of the Australian Animal Protection Law Journal.

She is a regular speaker on animal law and has been responsible for organising and coordinating significant animal law conferences, workshops and national lecture series.

 Ms Good is currently developing a Model Animal Law Curriculum with Professor Nick James from Bond University, and earlier this year, she completed a PhD in environmental law.

The RSPCA is Australia’s leading animal welfare organisation and one of Australia’s most trusted charities. The RSPCA works to prevent cruelty to animals by actively promoting their care and protection.
