In between hitting the fence for six and slapping on another layer of green and gold zinc this Australia Day, make sure the food you’re cooking up is RSPCA Approved.

Australia Day is the perfect time to make the switch to higher welfare food and with RSPCA Approved products available all over Australia, making the switch is easier than ever.

“The RSPCA has teamed up with farmers to provide a higher welfare alternative for consumers, this Australia Day,” said RSPCA Australia CEO, Heather Neil.

“On RSPCA Approved farms, animals are provided with an environment that allows them to express their natural behaviours. These most basic of needs aren’t afforded to pigs, turkeys, chickens or hens in conventional farming systems.”

An RSPCA national survey found 59% of grocery buyers said animal welfare was  an important factor when choosing food products in the supermarket*.

“The RSPCA Approved Farming System Stamp of Approval is our guarantee that those products were produced by animals that were treated humanely.

“Shopping humane is the simplest thing you can do to help improve the welfare of animals. Your choices in the supermarket send a clear message to industry that the welfare of production animals is important.

“The RSPCA believes that whether its pork, ham, turkey, chicken or eggs, you can enjoy your Australia Day foods and still care about the animals that provided it,” said Ms Neil.
