Every year millions of animals across the world are used in the safety testing of consumer products – including drugs, chemicals, food and cosmetics – but soon this could all change. Exciting technical advances underlie the next generation of safety tests – those without the need for animals.

Find out more about the biotechnology revolution proving things can be done differently at the RSPCA Scientific Seminar 2014. Award winning, US-based toxicology expert Prof. Thomas Hartung will be challenging the basic assumptions of toxicity testing and exploring the uptake of non-animal methods at a series of public events across Australia.

As the Director of the Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing, and previously as Director of the European Centre for the Validation of Alternative Methods, Prof. Hartung is leading the way in promoting non-animal based testing methods internationally. He was a key driver in implementing the European REACH legislation and the EU ban on animal testing for cosmetics and now plays a key role in leading future strategy on toxicity testing in the US.
